My girl is catching up slowly….
Her platelet count went down to 15 as you know…today the news came that it went up >100. So all signs are positive but we are still being wary about it. Tomorrow is another day of watching and monitoring and Saturday she’ll be back….God willing!
Over past few days realised one thing that
– tick fever can be a silent killer
– never say never
– things that appear in the rear view are closer than you think
Leaia was completely asymptomatic of the fever. It was Romeo who started coughing and we were worried. He started getting better with the antibiotics (canine cough). Leaia just got spayed and was doing fine till only recently she started showing signs of stress (weak eyes and sludgy).
We thought she caught the cough from Romeo. So told the doctor and he gave an injection. But then the fever didnt relent. Then her head bobbing got us all panicked and we rushed her.
When the blood test confirmed E Canis the internet search started. I can be quiet a difficult patient or mother of the patient!
The platelets started dropping from 45-35-15. The doctor was waiting to give her the steroids since she was weak from her previous surgery. We decided to focus our energies on getting her platelets count up. Food, energy, prayers everything and everyone marching towards the same goal!
I think the powers to be heard and her count is increasing slowly but surely :))
What we are guessing is that she inherited the disease from her mother. Leaia is adopted as most of you know. She was a neglected girl before she decided enough is enough and chose us as her parents. We don’t know her parentage that well but what we do know is that from now on she is our girl. Every step she takes, we will be there for her (Romeo will be there as her Guardian Angel :)).
More later on her path to recovery….till then hopefully things will get better tomorrow.
