When Leaia comes to you with her smiling big eyes, your sorrows drown in them.
Leaia the most intelligent women in the world as per Star Trek! Since she came into our lives, all of us have started smiling more, sharing more and feeling generally better. The fact that she can’t sit or stand straight and still is so enduring to someone like me who is a hardcore disciplinarian! When she walks her behind moves faster than the rest of the body! So imagine!!
This post is dedicated to this angel in our lives. For 1 odd yr she survived in a cage, with half a bowl food every day, longing for people and friends to play and to go out with.
She entered our lives and initially, even at a year old, she behaved like a puppy. Systematically destroying everything in sight. The elegant sofa that everyone admired is now a piece of shame with its one arm eaten by her (and the shop refusing to change it!), the beautiful antique table has its edges bitten off, the phone chargers, pieces of jewellery, spectacles etc have all been devoured by her in regular frequency.
For the first 2 months we were very worried….did we mess it up? She was bullying Romeo. Taking away all his toys and refusing to let him play with any or even come near us. If he’d come for a kiss to anyone of us, she wanted it more and for herself…the poor guy withdrew in the background. Food was another issue. She couldn’t resist eating her food within seconds and then grabbing Romeos’.
Romeo is primarily a Mamma’s boy; so naturally I began to get worried about him. Did we do the right thing? Will Romeo be OK? Will she be able to adjust?
Then it soon started to fall in place. We took the hardest decision of neutering her. She had to be hospitalised for few days and Romeo was miserable and so were we. Then she somehow caught the horrendous tick fever and was on the verge of collapse. With no proper nourishment in her earlier part of life, she was unable to fight it on her own unlike Romeo (who was also diagnosed with the same but fought it on his own). We again had to admit her and just when all hopes were going, her cloudy eyes danced the moment she saw us….thats when we knew she’ll make it! With good treatment and prayers she managed to overcome it and finally came back to us all bouncy and happy!
Today, not a day goes by when her dancing diva skills (we nicknamed her Shakira because of her hip movement!); smiling eyes and a constant smile on the lips makes it all worthwhile!
Romeo has his best playmate and she probably is the only girl who can bring him down to which he succumbs easily. As for her parents, she is a Daddy’s girl! She comes to me, when Im unwell or when she needs food for everything else she is her daddy’s pet!
P doesnt complain either, Romeo can bark till cows go home; as long as he tells Leaia to calm him down!
Life has changed and for the better. For all those who don’t have a dog, go get one; better still get a rescued one…they will change you and your lives for best!
